Random Facts About Me: Amy Thomas
Hey! I’m Amy Thomas, owner of this website and author of each and every article. I appreciate you being here and reading my guides, I hope you’ve found them helpful.
For those who are curious, here are some random facts about me:
Random Facts About Me
I attended the University of Colorado Denver, majoring in Financial Management. In 2012, for one of my final projects, I wrote a paper titled “Why You Should Invest In Amazon.” Unfortunately, I didn’t follow my own advice.
I’m very close with my family and consider my cousins and brothers among my best friends.
I moved a lot as a kid: I lived in Chicago, Utah, Arizona, and finally, just before my 13th birthday, I moved to Castle Rock, Colorado.
Within Colorado I’ve also lived in Fort Collins, Grand Junction, and Denver. I call Denver my home, it’s the city I’ve lived in longer than any other, and I love it here.
I also spent a year living in Sag Harbor, New York back in 2022. (Read How I Quit My Job & Traveled For A Year).

I primarily follow a vegan diet. I took eggs and dairy out of my diet for health reasons in 2018 and seriously cut down on meat and fish around then as well.
I read a lot, 50 books per year is the goal. The Untethered Soul, The Power of Habit, The Seat Of The Soul, and the Harry Potter series are a few of my favorites.
I’m a huge Swiftie and have been since the summer of ’07 when my high school best friend stormed into the living room exclaiming, “You have to listen to this girl, she’s singing songs about high school!” 17 year old me was hooked, and I’ve grown up with Taylor Swift (figuratively) by my side ever since.
(That same friend, Katie, is the reason I saw Taylor Swift from the 3rd row during the Fearless Tour in 2009, which was incredible, to say the least).
New York City is one of the first trips I took as an adult without my parents. Now, 15-ish years later, it’s still one of my favorite cities in the world.
I’m remarkably average at just about everything I try. I’m rarely great, sometimes terrible. But yet, I don’t give up. I just plug away at things and eventually figure them out. I was cut from the high school soccer team my sophomore year, but showed up again for tryouts the next two years and made the team both times. That kind of sums me up, I think.
Writing is one of the many things which does not come naturally for me. It takes an incredible amount of energy to get the words out. Yet here I sit, typing away. I’ve published nearly a million words on this site and they’ve been read by hundreds of thousands of people.
I haven’t hit the slopes since I was a kid living in Utah, but I feel very much at home in ski towns. I love the mountain views, après ski, cozy fireplaces, and hot tubs… mountain towns have an unmatched energy.

I don’t watch a ton of TV, but a few shows I love are: Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations, The Challenge, anything by Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Top Chef.
My first time leaving the country was a day trip to Tijuana from San Diego, back when you didn’t need a passport to go to Mexico.
I drink copious amounts of green tea.
I was in a local television commercial for the Colorado Rockies in 2011-ish. My line was, “Root Sports is my home for Chris Iannetta home runs.” I giggled through the whole thing, but with good editing, it just looks like I was really happy to be there.
Speaking of the Rockies, I love baseball, it’s my favorite sport. I hope to someday do a great summer road trip where I visit every MLB ballpark.
I also love national parks, something my parents get all the credit for. We spent a ton of time in the Utah national parks when I was a kid, Zion and Arches were my favorites.
I don’t count a state or country as “visited” unless I’ve spent a night there. Sure, I’ve been to Kansas numerous times, but how can I say I’ve really been there when I’ve only seen gas stations and rest stops?
On the topic of Kansas, I’ve visited nearly all 50 states. I have 8 left and should see them all within the next year. (Update: I’ve “officially” visited all 50 states, including Kansas).
Traveling is my passion and has been since I was little. I remember as a kid, my grandpa asking, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” I responded with something like, “I don’t know, but I want to travel.” Well, neither of us knew blogs were going to be a thing during that conversation in 1999-ish, but here I am, living a life 9 year old me would be in awe of.
