Since Southampton Village has surprisingly few hotel options, it might be worth widening your search a bit. The nearby hamlet of Water Mill is just a few minutes away (about 2 miles) and has a couple of notable stays:

Head of Pond House ($$$) — A small, adults-only bed and breakfast with a quiet, classic Hamptons feel, plus a pool and included breakfast. Great if you want something more intimate and relaxed just outside the village.
Shou Sugi Ban House ($$$$) — A high-end, Japanese-inspired wellness retreat focused on spa, movement, and curated experiences. This is more of a destination stay than a typical Hamptons hotel.

Southampton Hotel Expectations

Southampton is one of the most desirable places to stay in the Hamptons, but hotel inventory here is very limited — and you won’t find as many polished boutique hotel options as you might expect for a destination this well known.

Because of limited inventory, prices can get very high — especially during peak summer season — and can sometimes feel high for what you’re getting.

This isn’t just a Southampton issue — it’s true across the entire Hamptons. What you’re really paying for here is location. Southampton is one of the most sought-after beach destinations in the U.S.

Because of that, you may find yourself paying prices that feel closer to luxury-level, while the hotel itself feels more mid-range in terms of amenities. If that’s something that might bother you, it’s worth adjusting expectations ahead of time — or considering a visit outside summer when prices decrease dramatically.
