Breckenridge’s charming Main Street, backed by stunning mountain views, sets the perfect stage for one of Colorado’s most beloved Oktoberfest celebrations.

This lively fall event transforms downtown Breck into a festive celebration of Bavarian culture — with beer, bratwursts, stein-holding contests, and more. Whether you’re joining for the beer or just love a good mountain party, Breck Oktoberfest is a fantastic way to celebrate the season.

Things To Do At Breckenridge Oktoberfest

Play Games or Join a Contest

Joining a contest is the ultimate Oktoberfest move. At Breckenridge Oktoberfest, stein hoisting is the main competition — and it’s held every afternoon. On Sundays, they even switch it up with a Baby Bjorn stein hoisting event that’s hilarious to watch.

In past years, additional contests like brat-eating and pretzel tossing have been part of the festivities. This year, there were also casual games like Hammerschlagen, a German-inspired nail-hammering game that you’ve probably played at a dive bar.

Prefer to spectate? All contests are free to watch and always draw a crowd.

Oktoberfest 5K Trail Run

Get your steps in before you start sipping! The Oktoberfest 5K takes place Saturday morning and winds through Breckenridge’s scenic trails just as the aspens begin to turn gold.

Location: Town of Breckenridge trails, finishing at Blue River Plaza
Perks: First 250 runners get a long-sleeve tech tee. 21+ runners get a free beer.

Watch Traditional Bavarian Dancers

A fan favorite every year — traditional Bavarian dance performances happen Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Expect energetic footwork, rhythmic clapping, and colorful traditional outfits.

Browse The Vendors

Throughout the event you’ll find boutique pop-ups, outdoor gear, artisan crafts, and more throughout the event space. Many vendors are local and offer unique gifts or souvenirs to remember your time in Breckenridge.

Also, the surrounding shops on Main Street are open and worth browsing too!

Food & Drink

Beer & Alcohol at Breckenridge Oktoberfest

This wouldn’t be Oktoberfest without beer — and Breck delivers.

Expect a lineup of locally brewed beers, including options from Breckenridge Brewery, plus wine, ciders, and cocktails. Beer tents are spread across the event, and guests are free to walk around with drinks.

Bring a credit card – cash is not accepted at beer tents.
No tokens – unlike past years, you’ll pay per drink (past year’s tokens not allowed).
ID required – 21+ guests must get a wristband to drink.

Breckenridge Oktoberfest Steins

Ceramic Breckenridge Oktoberfest steins (half-liter) are available for purchase and include one free beer if you buy in advance. They’re a fan-favorite souvenir and usually sell out (seriously, arrive early and get one right away if you didn’t pre-order).

Bring your own: Already have a stein? You can bring it — even if it’s from another year or a different event.

Tip: The beer cups for non-stein users are pretty small and cost the same — if you plan on having more than one beer, it’s worth buying or bringing a stein.

Oktoberfest Food

Food is definitely a highlight at this event, there are tons of vendors and food trucks. From Bavarian classics to festival favorites, there’s a lot of food to try at Breckenridge Oktoberfest.

You’ll find soft pretzels, bratwursts, schnitzel sandwiches, pierogies, and a whole lot of non-German food too.

Food lines get long, so try arriving early, otherwise bring your patience!

Additionally, many food vendors are credit card only.

Dietary note: Options for specific diets are limited. As a vegan, I was only able to find French fries. If you have dietary restrictions, surrounding restaurants are a better bet — but they can get crowded, especially during peak hours.

Water & Non-Alcoholic Beverages

Bring a reusable water bottle — the town has banned plastic water bottles, but there are water refill stations throughout the event.

Food vendors also offer sodas and sparkling drinks, and nearby coffee shops are open for additional non-alcoholic options.

Live Entertainment & Music

Live music plays all day, every day during Oktoberfest. There are two stages of entertainment:

Main Stage – contests, keg tapping, and bands throughout the day
South Stage – additional live music and games

Expect a mix of traditional folk and Bavarian music during the day and more upbeat genres for dancing in the evening.

Keg Tapping Ceremony

Each day, the official keg tapping ceremony kicks things off at the Main Stage — and yes, it often includes a dramatic beer spray into the air — it’s messy and fun.

Get there early for a spot up front, it’s difficult to see otherwise.

Kid Zone

Bringing the little ones?

This year’s Kid Zone is expanded and open all three days. Located at the south end of Main Street, the space includes a huge bounce house, face painting, plus themed games and crafts.

Families looking for a quieter experience should attend on Friday or Sunday, when crowds are smaller.

Don’t forget to take a moment to soak it all in. Breckenridge is tucked into a stunning mountain valley — framed by the Ten Mile Range — and early fall brings a splash of gold as aspens begin to change.

Weather & What To Wear

Breckenridge weather in mid-September is usually sunny during the day and chilly at night.

Wear layers — think jeans or shorts with a tee during the day and a jacket or sweater for the evening.

Don’t forget sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat. The sun hits harder at high altitudes and shade is limited.

Costumes Encouraged!

Many people dress up for Oktoberfest, and it’s a fun way to join in!

Women: Dirndls (blouse, bodice, skirt, apron)
Men: Lederhosens (short leather pants + suspenders + collared shirt)

You’ll also see families dressed up — even toddlers in tiny dirndls and lederhosens (there’s even a kids costume contest!). Costume quality ranges from fun Amazon finds to authentic German attire, just bring what you’ve got.

Getting There, Parking & Getting Around

How To Get to Breckenridge

From Denver: 1.5 hours (80 miles) along I-70 & CO-9 — allow extra time during peak travel times.
By bus: Take the Bustang to Frisco, then transfer to the free Summit Stage bus to downtown Breck.

Parking

Best Option: South Gondola Parking Garage (150 Watson Ave) — free through mid-November
Other lots: Paid and often fill up fast
Overnight parking allowed in Town of Breckenridge lots during Oktoberfest weekend — just follow posted signage

If you’re planning to drink, don’t drive. Walk, bike, or use local transit instead.

Public Transportation

Breckenridge has a great free bus system (Breck FreeRide), and most hotels have shuttles into downtown.
