While there aren’t any hot springs directly in Breckenridge, several excellent soaking spots are located within driving distance, ranging from scenic spa-style pools to natural riverside hot springs. It’s an easy way to rest and recover after skiing, hiking, or exploring town.

Whether you’re looking for a polished resort experience or something quieter and more low-key, here are the best hot springs near Breckenridge (listed from closest to farthest) and what to know before planning your visit.

Best Hot Springs Near Breckenridge

Indian Hot Springs (Idaho Springs)

Indian Hot Springs offers a completely different soaking experience compared to other open-air mountain pools on this list. Located in Idaho Springs, the main draw is a large indoor mineral bath set inside a greenhouse-style dome filled with tropical plants, giving it a unique, old-school spa atmosphere.

The property has a long history dating back to the early 1900s, and while it’s been updated over time, it still maintains a distinctly historic feel — including a few quirks typical of older facilities. Private geothermal tubs and spa treatments are also available if you want a more secluded experience. 

While this spot doesn’t have the best reviews, it’s been under new ownership for a few years now and I’m excited to see how it continues to improve. 

Reservations are required on weekends, and no matter when you visit, bring flip flops and a towel (unless you plan to rent one).

Raspberry Hot Springs (Idaho Springs)

Raspberry Hot Springs is one of the more unique hot springs near Breckenridge thanks to its remote, private setting tucked into the mountains outside Idaho Springs. Instead of multiple shared pools, the property offers a single soaking pool reserved for private use only, creating a quiet and intimate experience. Despite being relatively close to the Front Range, the atmosphere feels secluded, with beautiful mountain views and a peaceful, off-grid feel.

Reservations are required and sell out in advance, so planning ahead is essential. Access involves driving up a steep forest road, and AWD or 4WD with at least 8” of clearance is mandatory as part of the booking agreement. Guests should also plan to bring their own towels, as there are no showers or full facilities on site.

The experience feels luxurious in its privacy and setting, but rustic when it comes to amenities. If you’re looking for a more intimate soak rather than a social, resort-style hot springs visit, this is one of the best options within driving distance of Breckenridge.

Radium Hot Springs (Near Kremmling)

Radium Hot Springs is one of the closest natural hot springs to Breckenridge and offers a more adventurous, low-key experience. Located along the Colorado River near Kremmling, the pools are rock-formed and completely undeveloped — meaning no facilities, bathrooms, or services are available.

The short hike down to the river is quick but steep, and hot spring conditions change frequently depending on river flow and weather. During spring/ early summer runoff, pools may be partially submerged or inaccessible. 

Visiting during quieter times increases your chances of having a more peaceful soak, since space is limited. As always with natural hot springs, practice Leave No Trace principles and pack out everything you bring in.

There’s a parking lot with toilets at the trailhead, but otherwise no facilities on-site.

Glenwood Hot Springs Pool (Glenwood Springs)

Glenwood Hot Springs Pool is one of Colorado’s most iconic hot springs and offers a very different experience compared to smaller soaking spots. The massive main pool — officially the largest hot springs pool in the world — is fed by mineral-rich geothermal water and feels more like a historic resort experience than a quiet spa retreat.

Expect a lively, social atmosphere with families, groups, and kids. The property dates back to the late 1800s, and while facilities have been modernized, it’s helpful to go in with realistic expectations that it’s a historic destination with a lot of character. Lockers are included, but towels cost extra unless bundled with certain tickets (or you can bring your own!). 

For a more relaxed experience, try visiting early in the morning or later in the evening when crowds thin out. Visitors can reserve online or walk-in.

Iron Mountain Hot Springs (Glenwood Springs)

Iron Mountain Hot Springs is one of the most scenic and thoughtfully designed hot springs within reach of Breckenridge. Located along the Colorado River in Glenwood Springs, the property features multiple small soaking pools set at different temperatures, allowing you to move around and find your perfect spot. 

The atmosphere feels relaxed but elevated — more spa-like than rustic — with mountain and river views and beautiful facilities.There’s also an adults-only section with additional pools and a bar if you’re looking for a quieter experience (requires a specific ticket). 

Timed-entry reservations are required and often sell out on weekends and during peak season, so booking ahead is essential. Lockers and towels are included, which makes planning easy. Sunset sessions are especially popular and worth aiming for if your schedule allows.

Yampah Spa & Vapor Caves (Glenwood Springs)

Yampah Spa & Vapor Caves offers a totally different experience compared to traditional soaking pools. The environment feels warm, quiet, and more like a sauna / hot springs hybrid than a typical hot springs pool.

The facility dates back to the late 1800s, and while it’s maintained and updated, it still retains its historic charm. Sessions are timed, and it’s best to book ahead since availability can fill quickly, especially during peak travel seasons. 

In addition to the vapor caves, private mineral baths and spa treatments are available upstairs if you prefer a more traditional soaking experience. Bring water and plan to relax — this is more about slow, restorative wellness than social soaking.

Mt. Princeton Hot Springs (Buena Vista Area)

The overall vibe leans toward a full-service resort experience, with locker rooms, dining options, and on-site lodging available.

Creekside pools tend to fill up quickly since they’re both popular and limited in size, so arriving early gives you the best chance of finding space. This is a great option if you want a mix of comfort and natural scenery with sufficient amenities.

Reservations aren’t always required but are helpful during weekends. If you’re planning a longer visit, staying overnight can give you extended access and a quieter experience (overnight guests have access to additional pools and much nicer changing facilities).

The setting is scenic without feeling overly developed, which appeals to travelers looking for something more relaxed and traditional. Amenities are intentionally minimal compared to bigger resorts, so don’t expect luxury-level facilities — the focus here is on the soaking itself. 

Reservations are recommended, especially during busy weekends and winter months. This is a great choice if you want a peaceful, scenic soak that feels authentically Colorado without large crowds or a high-energy atmosphere.
