Looking for a fun winter activity? Consider ice skating in Denver.

You can find a few seasonal outdoor rinks throughout the city and many more just a short drive from downtown.

I’ve lived in Denver most of my life, and love checking out all the different rinks around town.

This is a very popular winter activity. Keep in mind most rinks will be quite busy over the weekends, and especially during the holiday season.

Read on for the best outdoor ice skating rinks in Denver.

Outdoor Ice Skating Rinks In Denver

Downtown Denver Rink At Skyline Park

Location: 16th Street Mall
Season: Not operational for the 2025-2026 or the 2026-2027 season for renovation.

Sitting under the lofty buildings of downtown, and among the bustle of the 16th Street Mall, is the Downtown Denver Rink.

This pop-up skate rink has been a highlight of Denver winters since 2009.

Bring your own blades and skate for free, or rent a pair on site for a fee.

The ice skating rink is centrally located, so plan to grab post-skating food or drinks in the area or do a bit of holiday shopping.

McGregor Skate

Location: McGregor Square
Season: November – TBD

McGregor Skate is downtown Denver’s newest skating rink located in bustling McGregor Square.

Surrounded by high rise buildings, bars, and restaurants, this outdoor rink is in an excellent location. They even have live music, DJ’s, and special events on select weekends.

Be sure to pop into one of McGregor Square’s many restaurants or bars to warm up after skating.

Figure and hockey skates are available for rental, and included with admission. Those bringing their own skates will receive discounted admission.

Halcyon On Ice

Location: Cherry Creek
Season: November – January 1st

Halcyon Hotel’s Rare Bird bar transforms into Halcyon On Ice each holiday season.

This rooftop bar in Cherry Creek has great views of downtown, warm drinks like hot cocoa, cozy blankets, fire pits, and an ice-less ice skating rink.

It’s free for the public and hotel guests.

The Rink At Evergreen Lake

Location: Evergreen
Season: Depends on conditions, roughly December – February

Evergreen Lake is not in Denver, but about an hour west in Evergreen. However, I had to add it to this list because it’s the world’s largest zamboni-maintained natural outdoor ice rink, and hands down one of the best places to ice skate near Denver.

There’s one huge public rink, and 11 separate pond hockey rinks, all under a gorgeous, mountain backdrop. The rinks are surrounded by boardwalks, for breaks or watching ice skaters.

In the Evergreen Lake House, skaters can warm up with hot chocolate and snacks from the concession area or enjoy the fire.

Ice skates are available for rental on site, and are an additional fee on top of admission. The line for skate rentals can be really long during peak times, so definitely bring your own if you have them.
