The Best Hot Springs In Ouray, Colorado
Ouray is well known for its abundant hot springs thanks to the town’s location on a large geological lift near the head of Uncompahgre Valley. The lift created a massive amount of pressure, heat, and ultimately hot springs.
Unlike many famous hot springs around the US, the ones in Ouray are free from sulfur, thanks to the type of geology found in this part of Colorado. Therefore, the hot springs located here are mineral based, but completely odor free.
During my visit to Ouray, I made it my mission to visit as many hot springs as possible, and I recommend you do the same! The hot springs were the perfect way to unwind after long days of hiking and exploring the beautiful San Juan Mountains.
Below are the best hot springs in Ouray, Colorado (plus a couple nearby!).
The Best Hot Springs In Ouray, Colorado
Ouray Hot Springs Pool
Ouray Hot Springs is the town’s largest and most popular spot for soaking.
These are developed hot springs, meaning they look like a typical pool, but still offer the healing properties of natural hot springs.
The complex has various pool options, including lap pools, kid areas, and adult-only pools. Each pool varies in temperature, ranging all the way from 102° to 32°F.
No matter which pool you’re in, the views are incredible.
In addition to hot spring pools, there’s also a fitness center on-site and regular classes such as swim lessons.
Ouray Hot Springs Pool has large locker rooms with ample showers and changing areas. Be sure to bring quarters for the lockers.
Admission is $26/ adult, with lower pricing available for children, seniors, and military members. Additionally, Ouray Hot Springs offers membership pricing and Punch Passes for repeat visitors.
Towels are not included with admission, bring your own or plan to buy one.
Wiesbaden Hot Springs Spa & Lodging
Wiesbaden is one of my favorite hot springs in Ouray.
There are three pool options here, a traditional outdoor hot spring, a private outdoor soaking pool with a waterfall, and a vapor cave hot spring.
The real gem in my opinion is their vapor cave hot spring.
Inside a small cave below the hotel is a natural spring that collects water from deep within the mountain. It gets quite hot in here, with the water around 107 – 109°F, plus constant steam from the enclosed cave.
Those who can handle the conditions will absolutely love this hot spring, it’s really special.
Wiesbaden does offer lodging, hotel guests and the general public are invited to soak here. Additionally, there’s a spa on-site with various massage services.
Wiesbaden Hot Springs has large locker rooms with showers, a spa-like co-ed seating area, and other conveniences for guests.
The outdoor pool and vapor cave are available by reservation for $25 / person. The price for the private pool varies.
Twin Peaks Lodge & Hot Springs
Perfect for recharging and warming up during the colder months, the Twin Peaks hot springs range in temperature from 100 to 106°F. With 9 tubs to choose from there is no shortage of options, including adult-only areas and kid-friendly areas. There’s even a thermal cave on site, which is excellent for unwinding.
Don’t forget to check out the Sage Spa at Twin Peaks for a variety of different massage treatment options. Choose either a 60 or 90 minute session and experience true relaxation from one of the massage therapists.
There are spacious locker rooms and showers available to all visitors.
Passes are divided into 3 different categories, day-pass, locals-day, and annual. Additionally, pricing varies based on time of day, expect to pay about $25-30 / adult. There are discounts for children and seniors, thermal cave passes are extra.
Box Canyon Lodge & Hot Springs
Finally, rounding out the hot springs in Ouray is Box Canyon Lodge & Hot Springs.
Box Canyon Hot Springs are the perfect place for excessive relaxation! On offer are 7 different pools, with 360 degree views of the sprawling mountains above. Temperatures range from 101 to 108°F.
These hot springs are for guests at Box Canyon Lodge only.
Hot Springs Near Ouray
Orvis Hot Springs
Located in Ridgway
Distance from Ouray: 15 minutes (8 miles)
Less than 10 miles from Ouray, you will find 10 unique, lithium pools and ponds. The water is completely natural, never treated with any kind of harmful chemicals. There are both indoor and outdoor options with temperatures ranging from 65 to 112°F.
The spa at Orvis Springs boasts a sauna, various types of pools, and your selection of massage treatments priced by duration.
For anyone staying overnight, the hot springs are accessible 24 hours a day. Adult Day Passes cost $28, 1-hour sessions, $24, and children are $12. It should also be noted that clothing is optional while soaking (in certain tubs), and anyone age 18 and under should be accompanied by an adult.
Durango Hot Springs
Located in Durango
Distance from Ouray: 1 hour, 30 minutes (60 miles)
Durango Hot Springs is a huge spa and hot spring resort located 1.5 hours from Ouray.
The center offers a staggering 32 natural pools, which vary temperature, some are adult-only and others are family-friendly. They also have a resort-style swimming pool, cold plunges, and 5 Japanese-inspired cedar soaking tubs.
All of this on beautifully maintained grounds with gorgeous views.
At the resort you’ll also find a sauna, rain tower, and reflexology path, in addition to full spa services.
The resort has large, recently renovated locker rooms with showers and spacious seating areas.
Visitors are required to make reservations in advance. Pricing varies, there are children and adult rates for 2 or 3 hour visits. Spa services and special features, such as the private soaking tubs, are additional. The resort offers passes for frequent visitors.

Ouray is incredibly lucky to be surrounded by so many wonderful hot springs! Be sure to visit at least one during your visit to the “Switzerland of America.”

I have traveled extensively through the country, including Colorado, but never heard of Ouray and its hot springs until half an hour ago.
I started to do some search and came across this article and your suggestions, thank you so much for sharing! I love hot springs and mountains (no wonder, I live in Fort Lauderdale lol), so Ouray is definitely going to be on the top 3 of my list for this and/or next year.
